Ephemera!
To be perfectly honest with you, I’m distracted. I obsessively check the news--desperately needing to know what’s developed in the last four minutes--and wonder when it’s reasonable to buy more toilet paper without it falling into the category of panic buying.
But I'm not writing today to talk to you about fear or panic or distraction. There’s enough of that in the ether as is, and I don’t need to add to yours.
Rather, this is an invitation to join me on my newest adventure of a project: a newsletter called Ephemera that blends fiction, essays, news and art. It's a package of curios delivered to your inbox monthly to get you thinking and talking and wondering.
Because I love stories (always have, starting with Ot and Stella Go On a Picnic, a pretty self-explanatory tale about my two childhood cats in which I spelled drink “jirink”), you’ll find one or two pieces of short fiction at the center, surrounded by the slivers of pop culture that inspired those stories.
The inaugural issue is titled Seeming/Being; the content revolves around this seemingly gauzy central theme that will hopefully crystalize as you read. There will be a new theme each month, and as the title of the newsletter suggests (and our dwindling attention spans demand), each piece is intended to be a short burst--more of a break than a commitment.
And, to keep things interesting, I'll be hosting a monthly virtual discussion group alongside each issue. It's like a book club without the 400-page reading commitment.
I hope you'll join me and add your thoughts, ideas and voice to the mix. You can read the first issue here, join the discussion here, and subscribe here.
Happy wonderings,
Kat
